A replacement for the outdated Stapleton Airport the Denver International Airport is the second largest airport in the world next to the King Fahd International Airport and the 11th busiest airport serving over 52 million passengers annually.

An international gateway to the Rocky Mountain, the Denver International Airport is conveniently located in the northeastern segment of the City of Denver just 75 minutes from the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado spring which offers an airport shuttle service to and from the airport for its guests.

Facts About the Denver International Airport (DIA)

  • A 2014 Skytrax review announced in spring 2015 ranked the Denver International Airport as the eighth world’s best airport and the third leading airport in North America. The airport was also rated at second place for the ‘Best Airport Staff’ and ‘Best Regional Airport’ in the United States.
  • With six long runways and serving over 53 million passengers annually, the Denver International Airport is a primary hub for the low-budget airline carriers Frontier Airlines and the domestic charter carrier Great Lakes Airlines. The airport which is also the fourth-largest central hub for the world’s largest airline in number of destinations served; United Airlines, offers straight and connecting flights to a vast number of local and international destinations.
  • In 2015 the Denver International Airport as a part of its new South Terminal Redevelopment Program plans to open an open-air public Plaza, a community transit center with an RTD East Rail Line station as well as a Westin hotel. The Westin Hotel and Conference Center is a new on-site Airport hotel under construction and planned to open on Nov. 19, 2015. This 14-level hotel will feature 519 rooms, a large conference center, meeting rooms as well as a swimming pool and fitness studio on the top level. Between 2015 through to early 2016 – the new South Terminal Redevelopment Program is scheduled to complete three projects.
  • The Denver International Airport is situated off Pena Boulevard, (named after the previous Mayor of Denver, Federico Pena) contains over 40,000 parking places including garage, short-term, economy, long-term, and valet.
  • Denver International Airport main terminal; the Jeppensen Terminal named after Elrey Jeppsen the aviation safety pioneer and the airports main terminal located on the land side of the airport is divided into east and west terminals to allow passenger pickup and drop off. The central area of the airport houses two security areas for screening as well as exits used to access the underground railway system. A third security screening area is located on the north side of the terminal in addition to a segregated immigrations and area for customs.
  • The Jeppensen Terninal consists of six floors connected by elevators and escalators. Floors 1 – 3 make up the lower levels of the parking garages, floor 4 is used for passenger pick-up and contains both long and short-term parking, floor 5 is also used for parking, as well as for pickups, drop-offs, lots for car rentals, shuttles and taxis and even off-site parking. The sixth floor of the terminal is used for check-in counters and passenger drop-offs.
  • In addition to the Jeppsen Terminal the airport has three midfield concourses with enough room to construct two additional concourses in the future. Concourse A which has 37 gates is can be accessed by a pedestrian bridge across from the terminal building of by way of the underground train system serving all three concourses. Concourse B which has 77 gates hosts Mainline United flights and United Express operations from its main building while concourse C which has 27 gates is primarily used by the major airlines Southwest Airlines and Delts Air Lines.
  • Notable Denver International Airport concourses are much similar in design to those used by the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport with the exception of a satellite unit of T gates attached to the terminal and for a much space in-between concourses than that of Hartsfield-Jackson.
  • Denver International Airport offers a transit center which provides a wide range of ground transportation options including rental cars, commuter shuttles, hotel shuttles, public transportation, taxis, mountain carriers, luxury limousines, and charter buses. Although the airport does not currently offer an on-site hotel service there are over 30 locations offering accommodations within a 10 mile radius of the airport. This includes the Embassy Suites Denver Airport Hotel, the Hilton Garden Inn Denver Airport Hotel, and the Comfort Inn Airport Hotel.
